Alton David Mashburn
Mr. Alton David Mashburn, age 93, of Franklin passed away Saturday March 16, 2019.
Funeral services for Mr. Mashburn will be conducted Tuesday March 19, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Stutts Funeral Home with the Revs. Rich Pike and Charles Chapman officiating.
The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Mr. Mashburn was born June 20, 1925 in LaGrange to the late Harvy D. Mashburn and Berley Lee Ward Mashburn. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church of LaGrange.
He served in the US Army from 1946 until 1949. During this time he served in Korea for 1 year and 10 months and earned a World War II Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal (Korea).
After re-entering the workforce he served another stint in the Army from 1952 until 1955. He once again was sent to Korea (this time for one year and five months) and earned a Good Conduct Medal, a Korean Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal.
Later in his life he served in the Gulf of Mexico in the Merchant Marines, where he was based in the Port of New Orleans. He also worked as a cook on an oil rig in Louisiana.
After moving back to Georgia he owned several restaurants in the LaGrange and Hogansville area.
At home he enjoyed working in his garden. He was especially proud of his flowers.
He liked to whistle, and could whistle an entire song on cue. He remained spry into his old age, and was one of his nurses’ favorite patients.
Survivors include: three daughters: Sharon Duffy of Iowa, Barbara Hammoch of Tennessee, and Pam Mashburn of Phenix City, AL; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Cantrell of Franklin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters: Mildred Smith, Novice Barnes, Bobbie Forbus, and Betty Young; and one brother, Ardis Mashburn.
