Mrs. Todd was born June 20, 1937 in Haleyville, AL to the late David Marion Gentry and Hester Leigh Shoemake Gentry. She was a member of Welcome United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She served as the Secretary of the Heard County Civil Defense under Commissioner Wayne Miller. Later she was most well known as the librarian at the Heard County Public Library. She served countless students throughout the years where she touched the lives of her other “kids”. She had a lifelong love of books and emphasized the importance of reading in everyday life.
She had an undying love for her family. Her favorite times were spent around the table with family and friends for a home-cooked meal. She held a special place in heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When her first grandson was growing up, he enjoyed picking her up and swinging her around.
In her free time she loved to go to gospel singings, especially at the Old Veal School. She liked to spend time outside cutting grass and working in her garden with her vegetables and flowers. She also cherished times spent shopping, eating and gossiping with her sister, Ruby.
She was a true friend to everyone, and was always willing to help anyone in times of need.
Survivors include: three daughters: Debra Caraveo (Andres), Ellen Hill (Gordon), and Janet Privett all of Roopville; one son, Mike Todd (Tabitha) of Veal; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ruby Wiggins (John) of Roopville, Jackie Roberts of Atlanta, and Ella Gwyn Jackson of North Carolina; one brother-in-law, Bobby Coleman of Roopville; and a number of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Vinson Todd, Jr.; one son, John David Todd; one grandson, Joshua Adam Hill; two sisters: Clarice Crumbley and Jonnie Coleman; and one brother, Jimmy Gentry.

Will be forever missed!
Janice was a friend I loved dearly. During the 1990s when the Heard County Historical Society was collecting material for their first history book, Janice was Head Librarian at the Heard County Library. I will never forget how helpful she was collecting stories and photos for the Heard County History published in 1990. She will be missed.

I graduated with Janice in 1955 and she was always such a lovely, sweet and kind Friend.
I regret we were unable to see each other through the years,as often as I would have liked, but the bond remained between us.
God’s Kingdom has just been enriched by such a beautiful Angel.
My love and prayers go out to the family at this difficult time. BARBARA BELL DUDLEY
