A memorial service will be held Saturday July 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Salem Methodist Church.
Owen was born August 7, 1931 in the Simpson Community of Heard County, GA in the home of his parents, Owen Cook Davis, Sr. and Pallie Louise Heard Davis.
He was a graduate of Centralhatchee High School (Class of 1948) and attended Berry College. He graduated with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology and graduated from the Air War College.
Owen enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951, was commissioned a 2’nd Lieutenant, and was awarded his pilot wings in 1953. He served his country in Korea and Vietnam. He flew 137 combat missions over both North and South Vietnam, and was awarded 2 Silver Stars for gallantry in action during his tour there. He retired a Colonel from the Air Force in 1975.
He was known to buzz his home and other places in the county during the 50's and 60's in his fighter jet. When asked about it he would always grin, and then deny knowing anything about it. Folks still talk about those buzz jobs to this day.
Owen started his next career on the family farm raising Black Angus cattle. He was a dedicated member of the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association, and was selected Heard County Cattleman of the year in 2008.
He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion. As a direct descendant of one of Heard County’s earliest pioneers, he admired the role his family played in the history of Heard County and was a member of the Heard County Historical Society.
Most of all Owen was a proud member of the Heard County community. He was never too busy to help anyone who needed a hand, and used his skills to help all who asked, and those who did not. When Salem Church needed support he purchased it and gave it to the congregation. He was a living example of how a man should always strive to be: honest, hardworking, caring, and kind.
Survivors include: his wife, Bobbie Davis; his sons and daughters: Donell Tessier (Michael), Kenny Davis (Diane), Ramsay Rocisono (Jack), Dayna Bisbee (Charlie), Matt Davis, and Megan Myers (Rick); two stepchildren: Kris Larson and Karla Guldner (Jeff); 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rebecca Lawley (Joe); and a number of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Davis; and two brothers: Bernard Davis and Dock Davis.
